Based on my opinion, when it comes to social media in a social setting, not only do I find it invasive it is also extremely disruptive. Why do I believe it is invasive, based on the fact that what is posted is fair game for all to see and can be used against you in the court of law. Areas where I believe it is disruptive, that is an easy one to answer. When people forget proper etiquette, and surf the web, or are on Facebook, in business meetings or even in a classroom setting. I also think that social media in a social environment is crippling the young minds of today’s youth, taking away their ability to communicate effectively face-to-face. That being said; in business it is an absolute necessity. Social media in business is no longer an option; it has modernized businesses in a way that can no longer be ignored by those seeking to gain a competitive advantage over their competitors. Succeeding in today’s market is to understand the importance of social media in a business environment as well as to its successful implementation within one’s organization. To answer the question at hand; no I do not think it is a trend, nor do I think it is the next big thing since the industrial revolution. Do not get me wrong social media is good for businesses but, what I find more significant is the technology behind it all. Social media has evolved thanks to new technologies. Also, social media has been around forever but on a different level. Some examples would be newspapers, magazines, television ads, just to name a few. What I honestly find concerning is the way one’s personal information is sold to the highest bidder. Let’s face it folks if you think Facebook, Twitter and all the other social media platforms will allow you to use their software for free your mistaken there is and always will be a hidden motive.

  1. Hey Rene! You have made some very interesting and valid points about Social Media. The comment you made about the lack of communication that young people are facing these days, due to only being comfortable socializing in front of the computers, is a good one. I also feel that with everything else such as school, behaviours, manners comes from our home environment. If we let our children sit at home all the time facebooking, playing video games and so on, this is the type of people we have created. We need to teach our children and encourage them to get out there and enjoy people and the world. Team sports are just one of the many wonderful things we can get our children into at a young age to prepare them for a lifetime of friendships and keep the face to face Socializing going in our society.

  2. I agree that social media is detrimental to the communication skills to young people of society and that although face to face communication is not as prominent as it once was it still a very essential part of business that social media doesn't cater to.
Your opinion to neither or disagree with the question is a very unique way of looking a social media that seems to be unfiltered by the external influences of today society

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more. Social media is completely changing the way that young people interact and ruining their ability to communicate face-to-face. As far as business goes, social media is a necessity it today’s market. Businesses need social media to reach global audiences. I also like how you touched on the fact that technology as a whole has evolved to bring us to this point.

  4. I like the point you made about how social media is affecting the way we communicate face to face. I've noticed this before when I get a girl's number they won't want me to call them they want to text only. And they say it is because they're too shy to speak on the phone. You're also right about all the marketing information we give facebook how they sell this info to marketers and that this could be a big concern for most of us...ohwell lol

  5. Although I agree that young teens are getting comfortable with being able to talk to each other without really seeing each other , I think that for some of them its a way to escape problem they might be going through , for them its a whole new world where they can control the outcome of what ever they see , say or post
